Explore the neighbourhood!

Our creative playground is located in the bohemian 8th district, called Józsefváros, in the “Csarnoknegyed” neighbourhood. Right in the middle of the city yet not in the middle of the crowds and noise.

Until the beginning of the 20th century, Józsefváros was home to grand café houses & emblematic restaurants, making it a popular district for authors, poets, gypsy musicians & other creative figures.

After the decline of coffeehouse culture, socialism began to redraw the look of the neighbourhood by settling new factory workers migrating in from the countryside. Growing unemployment & poverty due to the regime change in '89 combined with factory closings created defining stereotypes about the 8th district.

Today, Józsefváros is enjoying a strong comeback, with numerous bars, cafés, restaurants & small boutiques turning it into a fun yet livable place with more & more young inhabitants & families making it their home. The old buildings' fading charm is intertwined with continuous renovations, newly built houses & growing businesses.
